Jimmy’s Magnolia Tree Inc. was named in honor of Mr. Jimmy Gilmore Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, a gentle and caring man whose life and legacy continue to inspire our mission.

Jimmy Gilmore worked at Georgia State University as a horticulturist. He was married to Inez Gilmore, a retired Special Education teacher, and together they raised seven children of their own. In addition to their family, Jimmy and Inez opened their doors and hearts to many individuals with developmental disabilities—individuals who, at the time, often had no option other than institutionalization.

Jimmy was diagnosed at an early age with Type 2 Diabetes and was only given to the age of 23 to live. Through proper diet, exercise, and a strong support system, he lived a long and fulfilling life. He was known for his calm spirit, generosity, and willingness to help anyone in need. Jimmy was the kind of man who would give his last to ensure someone else was cared for.

In honor of Jimmy’s legacy, Jimmy’s Magnolia Tree Inc. was created to continue the family tradition of service, compassion, and advocacy. The name reflects strength, growth, and care—values that are deeply rooted in everything we do.

Jimmy spent his final days in a beautiful 1920s custom-built brick and stone bungalow, surrounded by love, care, and dignity. That same sense of home, stability, and respect is what we strive to provide to every individual we serve.

Located just west of downtown Atlanta, our homes are conveniently close to shopping, churches, movie theaters, libraries, hospitals, pharmacies, and other essential community resources. We believe individuals thrive best when they are supported not only within their homes, but also fully included in their communities.

Jimmy’s Magnolia Tree Inc. exists to ensure that individuals with developmental disabilities have the opportunity to live meaningful lives in safe, supportive, family-style environments—rooted in care, dignity, and community inclusion.
